There are so many ways to keep busy on Denman Island – all four seasons offer an amazing array of cultural events, outdoor activities, and educational opportunities. There is always something exciting happening in our community!

Our parks and beaches offer endless opportunities for enjoying the outdoors, hiking, swimming, kayaking, beachcombing and more. In winter, snow lovers head to Mt Washington Alpine Resort for snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing and tubing, only 40 minutes away.

Library services can be accessed at the local Dora Drinkwater Library, which is staffed by volunteers 6 days a week, or through the larger Vancouver Island Regional Library books-by-mail program.

Denman’s many community groups provide a wide range of venues to socialize, indulge our hobbies and improve our skills. Whether your interests include cheese making, bridge or badminton, you will find a group of active participants. More formal instruction in a variety of continuing education skills is on offer through Community School Programs. Denman locals have so much expertise to share!

all about the arts:

culinary, visual & performing

It is possible that there has never been a denser population of foodies than here on the Islands. Fortunately, our culinary skills are up to the challenge, and our resources are abundant: from rare heritage apple varieties to our world-famous oysters. For wilder tastes, adept harvesters can capture salmon or sea asparagus from the same beach in different seasons. Pine mushrooms and chanterelles keep the woods busy with amateur mycologists.

Denman Island is a favourite bicycling place for families and cycling clubs

Arts Denman is an umbrella organization for groups sponsoring a huge number of events. The Summer Art Gallery series features the work of dozens of local artists as well as that of international exhibitors. The Readers and Writers Festival and the Concert Series attract world-class performers from across Canada, while the Classic Film nights gives locals a chance to tune in to something a just a little bit different.

Our community hosts a broad spectrum of talented artisans who display their wares at annual events: the Pottery Tour, the Studio Tour, the Blackberry Faire, and the Christmas Craft Faire.
